Work Hours: Up to 20 hours per week. Fridays will include 7.5 hours at work-based learning assignments + remaining 12.5 hours to be distributed as needed based on job description. Relevant Salary Schedule: Classified Salary Schedule, $19.20-$30.72/hour based on experience and education.

Job Overview: This position will be tasked with collaborating with Vista’s Career and Postsecondary Readiness Counselor to place students in internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing and work-based learning opportunities aligning with Vista’s five career pathways. While school is not in session at Vista on Friday, the Instructional Para/Work-Based Learning Coordinator will work 7.5 hours on Fridays throughout the school year in order to support students at their assignment work-based learning locations. The remainder of the assigned work hours will be dedicated to building business partnerships, working with students to determine placements and supporting Vista’s Pathway Teacher’s instructional support needs. The functions and responsibilities of the WBL Coordinator include program planning, development, and evaluation; related-class instruction; on-the-job instruction and coordination; guidance and advice; program administration and management; and community and public relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises pertaining to Vista’s Pathways Learning Model.
  • Tutor individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities.
  • Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques.
  • Maintain a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
  • Operate and assist students in the operation of a variety of instructional media machines and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
  • May participate in parent conferences and other student progress report activities as requested.

Knowledge of:

  • Effectively use community resources.
  • Collaborate in designing the program to include continued improvement and re-evaluation.
  • Evaluate, select, and establish worksites.
  • Inform worksite supervisors and parents of their role and responsibilities.
  • Create, monitor, and adjust training plans in collaboration with the worksite supervisor

and students.

  • Help worksite supervisors develop teaching techniques for working with students.
  • Monitor student progress through regular on-site visits and on-going communication.
  • Review state and federal labor and safety and health laws with the employer/worksite

supervisor and student.

  • Seek student evaluation of the worksite.
  • Provide reference material for career information.
  • Help students develop good work habits.
  • Develop and coordinate work experiences that encourage Vista’s five career pathways.
  • Recognize when students need counseling from other staff members and agencies.
  • Help students determine ways to best describe their marketable skills.
  • Assist graduating students with the various aspects of the job search.
  • Write letters of recommendation for students.

Ability to:

  • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
  • Basic arithmetic concepts.
  • Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures. Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, business partners and all Vista stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
