Justice-engaged students have the right to continued educational access, timely enrollment or re-enrollment, appropriate credit transfer, individualized support planning, and access to available academic, behavioral, and mental health services in accordance with Colorado law.

The Justice-Engaged Youth Point of Contact serves as a liaison between the student, family, school staff, community agencies, and justice system partners to support educational continuity and successful school engagement.

Vista Charter School may provide the following supports to justice-engaged students based on individual needs and available resources:

  • Enrollment and re-enrollment assistance
  • Academic counseling and graduation planning
  • Credit recovery and credit transfer evaluation
  • Alternative education pathways and flexible scheduling options
  • Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) interventions
  • Behavioral and social-emotional supports
  • School-based mental health referrals
  • Special education and Section 504 support services
  • Career and technical education opportunities
  • Postsecondary and workforce readiness planning
  • Family engagement and community resource referrals
  • Coordination with probation officers, case managers, and community service providers when appropriate and authorized

Upon notification that a student is justice-engaged, Vista Charter School will work collaboratively with the student, family, and appropriate school support teams to identify barriers to educational success and develop a plan that promotes school engagement, credit attainment, graduation, and postsecondary readiness.
